Chasing Freedom

After two long years of the world being shut down from the pandemic, I am glad to be travelling internationally again.

Don't get me wrong, I love Canada! It is such a beautiful country. Over these past two years I have been having a blast exploring its beauty and I still have so much to explore but it's a big world out there and I am very curious. The rules in Canada at the moment are also very strict. I am sure I am not alone when I say I am tired of it. I guess you could say I am chasing freedom.

As soon as I heard the world was starting to open back up again I started looking at flights. Mexico is one of the few places that is accepting visitors so the decision of where to go was made for me. Thankfully I have had steady work throughout the pandemic, so I have been able to save up some money to splurge on life a little bit. I spent this summer fighting forest fires in British Columbia and by the end I was ready for a break. I bought a plane ticket to Mexico City and that was that. I drove my van back to Ontario to visit with my family and pack my backpack for this new adventure.

You can visit Mexico for 180 days/6 months without a visa so that is the timeframe I am working with. I have made it safely to Mexico City just in time for Dia De Los Muertos aka. The Day of The Dead. I have met up with a friend I met on fires this summer and we will stay in the city together to experience the festivities.

After this I don't have many plans. I am just going to go with the flow. I do have a few goals for while I am here though. First and foremost I would like to learn some Spanish. I want to find somewhere to volunteer in my free time, I am sure I will have a lot. Lastly I want to learn to scuba dive. It has been on my bucket list for so long and if there is one thing that the pandemic has taught me it is that there is no time like the present. Besides, I have heard there is some amazing diving here so I have no reason not to give it a go.

Anyways! It is early on but so far so great. I am running around the city barefoot and maskless and it is acceptable! Needless to say, I feel free.
